Charging into the hybrid industry like a pouncing cat, Jaguar has created a high-performance hybrid concept: the C-X75. Back in June, it was given the title "Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2011", due to receiving the Concept Car of the Year Award - which would make it the third Jaguar concept to inherit this honor.
If we look over past winners, the award typically goes to concepts that have the best chance of shaping the future of the auto industry. 24 judges made up the board in making this desicion, and they had to review 30 qualified choices. However, the Jaguar C-X75 Hybrid Concept rode to the top pretty quickly.
As one juror, Chris Poole, commented, "The Jaguar C-X75 is one of the most visually arresting cars ever. Call it aggressive elegance. The novel turbine-based range-extender hybrid powertrain recalls the Chrysler Turbine Car, but looks ahead to what could be a practical alternative to conventional power sources."1
Visually arresting and innovative indeed! The phantom-like Jaguar C-X75 has, in fact, previously been named "Best in Show" by Autoweek and given the 2010 Louis Vuitton Classic Concept award.
So what's to come from this concept? The odds are looking good that this award-winning Jaguar hybrid concept is moving towards production. "Jaguar takes a bold step into its future by announcing the production of Project C-X75 - a state-of-the-art supercar that will be one of the fastest low-emissions vehicles in the world,"2 explains the luxury European automaker.
