Jaguar is known for their prowess, and artful design language. They're also known for continuously pushing the envelope. And, that's exactly what they did a couple weeks agon, on September 6. They unveiled the 2012 Jaguar C-X16 concept, a week before its officially scheduled global debut, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Even in concept form, the new Jaguar C-X16 has taken our breath away. It's dramatic styling is underscored by an authoritative hybrid powertrain and myriad of ground-breaking technologies. Even Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar, says, "For me, this is the most exciting car we've done to date."1
You don't even need to be a Jag guru to know this testament speaks volumes. Excitement isn't a novelty among Jaguar cars. Rather, it's the brands foundation.
At the heart of the Jaguar C-X16 concept's restless spirit, is a forebringer of things Manhattan Jaguar NYC hopes will come. Beneath the deftly sculpted hood, there lies a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine capable of putting out 373 horsepower (hp) and 332 lb.-ft. of torque.
With a touch of a button conveniently located on the steering wheel, the engine will integrate seamlessly with an electric motor that pumps out 94 hp and 173 lb.-ft. of torque. Further enhancing the inherent fuel savings that come with integrating a an electric motor into the design, Jaguar has also engineered the eight-speed transmission with stop-start and kinetic-energy-recovery systems.
How fast can this new Jaguar hybrid concept go? The 2012 Jaguar C-X16 concept brings its air splicing design to life, racing from zero to 62 miles per hour (mph) in just 1, 2, 3, 4...4.4 seconds! Fast enough to bring tears to your eyes.
Reflecting the potency of the new Jaguar hybrid's design is a red leather interior; exagerated, long hood, commanding presence/positioning of 22-inch alloy wheels; and three 'heart lines' defining the silhouette. To support its robust drive, the C-X16 concept is engineered with an aluminum body for optimal torsion rigidity and a 50-50 weight distribution.
