Jaguar Gets Unexpected Plug from Mad Men

Usually, any time a product or brand is mentioned or seen in film and television, the manufacturer paid to have it there. Sometimes, however, movies and TV shows can throw companies for a loop and give their products good publicity without them knowing about it beforehand. Such is the case with Jaguar and a recent episode of the Emmy-winning television series Mad Men.
Stumbling upon the account after a meet-up with his British expats, Lane Pryce, the 'Pryce' in the fictional Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce ad agency, presents his fellow partners with the possibility of bringing Jaguar back into the fold at their Madison Avenue firm. From there, the group pitches various ideas and slogans for the iconic E-Type (known as the XK-E in the United States), a car that packs more style and suave than Don Draper himself. With a scene that long and memorable and solely focused on Jaguar, don't you think they would have known about it? No so, according to company officials.
When asked about the scene, a spokesman for the British automaker said, "We did not have any role in the creation of the Jaguar brand storyline in the AMC television show Mad Men, though we did enjoy seeing the Jaguar brand make a cameo."1
